Pick-Up Information – Sept. 30 & Oct. 3

BUG INFO – Not many.

I wouldn’t compost the tomatoes or the kale due to possible fungi issues.

I left the tops on everything today – you might want to use these to make soup stock.

Your Pre-Packaged Box this week includes:
• A bunch of carrots
• 2 – 4 sweet peppers (not bagged) – 2 bell peppers and a few banana peppers and possibly a gypsy pepper.
• A bunch of collards
• 2 summer squash – probably the last of the season
• A bunch of salad greens - banded
• A bunch of Arugula - banded
• 3 to 4 turnips
• 2 -3 beets
• A bag of sugar snap peas. Some are big. Just shell those and eat the pea.
• 1 kohl rabi
• Broccoli – these are side shoots. The leaves are tasty as well.
• A delicata squash – these are small, oval squash with green and white stripes. Last week I said they might be just decorative but we cooked one and they’re pretty tasty. We baked it. The skin is very hard so be careful when you’re slicing it in half.
• A blue ballet squash – small bluish turban-shaped squash
• A basil plant – pesto time – it’s a bit wilted but it might plump up again if you cut the stems and soak in water or take the leaves off and soak in water before use. If you’re using for cooking, it won’t matter.
• 1 eggplant – maybe the last of the season
• 2 cooking onions. I just picked these yesterday so they still need to dry a bit. Just set them apart from other things in a dark, cool area and they’ll dry out. Let the ends dry up and fall off, don’t pull them off. Or, use them right away .

Optional/extra Items – Please take:
• There are gourds on the table. The huge ones are a cross between a summer squash and acorn squash. The seeds are good but flesh is kind of bland. They’re a nice decoration.
• Optional herbs – sage, thyme, oregano, chives
• Shelling peas – take a handful
• Feel free to pick some green beans
• Tomatoes – help yourself to about 8 – 10 romas, and 4 – 8 slicers.
• Spicy peppers which may include: jalapeno, pablano (large green spicy pepper), cayenne (skinny red pepper), or mole (longer thin greenish-purple pepper – about 8” long). If you want to pick more spicy peppers, feel free to do so. There might be some thai peppers on the table!
• Take the flowers that are there or go out and pick your own.
